EXCEPTIONAL! These guys are the best in our area for tile roof repair and renovation. Very courteous and pleasant to have on the property.
I was thrilled to have all the roof repairs itemized with associated costs. We did find a couple more areas of dry rot so the price did increase a bit but that was understandable. I have many years as a lead renovation draftsman for engineering projects in Wash DC, so I have high standards. I have worked with world class craftsmen and technicians and I was very satisfied with how our roof repairs were completed.

We used Powers Roof Service to get some work done on a very new tile roof. There were a couple of items that the original roofer left not quite complete. They did a great inspection of the roof and have completed the repairs. I have called a number of companies for this job. One of those companies gave a bid 3x as much as Powers did! Busting the Tar Paper Myth
We hear all too often that “my other contractor told me my roof leaked because the tar paper failed”. While this statement is sort of true it is incredibly misleading. Tar paper also known as underlayment, felt or moisture barrier, is exactly that….. a moisture barrier, not a water barrier. It is designed to extend the life of the plywood (sheathing) of the roof by acting as a barrier to keep off the moisture that will accumulate in the air gap under the tiles. Tile roofs, if taken care of, should last 50 + years. The tiles themselves will last much longer of course, what fails (aside from leaks caused from lack of maintenance) is the moisture barrier, rusting flashings, gaskets etc. There are things that can be done to extend the life of your tile roof aside from regular maintenance and updates. If you call your insurance your rates are likely to go up… and in most cases they won’t cover the costs to fix the roof unless a tree falls on it. Homeowners insurance will pay to repair damage that resulted from an action…such as a tree falling on your roof…but they won’t pay to replace the tree that caused the damage in the first place. Most leaks on tile roofs are caused from lack of maintenance, poor build quality, or broken tiles etc. Homeowners insurance will not pay to make these repairs as they are not responsible for these things.…
Open vs Closed Valleys
A valley is where two adjacent faces of the roof meet in a downward slope. Valleys carry the largest volume of water out of all the surfaces on your roof. An open valley is where the tiles are cut back to allow a space in between the tiles for water and debris to flow through (in theory). A closed valley is where tiles are cut to fit closely together in the valley to keep out debris and allow water to filter through the tiles and run through the flashing under the tiles. The roofs are framed with trusses, most often 2×4’s. On top of the truss’s plywood (aka sheathing) is installed.
